Palworld has officially launched out of early access, marking a significant milestone on July 10, 2026. This full release comes two and a half years after its initial early access debut in January 2024, addressing player anticipation about its journey to version 1.0.
The 1.0 update is truly gargantuan, with patch notes reportedly spanning over 10,000 words across twenty-seven pages. This extensive list of changes and additions suggests not just an update, but almost a complete re-imagining of the game.
A major highlight of the release is the introduction of 72 new Pals, including both new species and elemental variants. These creatures offer fresh challenges and opportunities for players, with some found in the newly introduced Sunreach Islands, a floating archipelago, and within the mysterious World Tree. Accessing these new zones requires completing specific quests, adding a layer of exploration and progression.
Even in early access, Palworld achieved phenomenal success, accumulating over 40 million players across all platforms by July 8, 2026, just before the 1.0 launch. While a portion of this player base comes from Xbox Game Pass, the game also boasts impressive sales figures. It sold 12 million copies on Steam by February 1, 2024, increasing to 15 million by February 22, 2024. Some estimates suggest over 25 million copies were sold within its first month alone.
The game’s concurrent player peak on Steam was a staggering 2,101,867 on January 27, 2024, placing it among the highest all-time on the platform. Following the 1.0 launch, Palworld continues to attract a substantial audience, reaching around 725,000 concurrent players on Steam during the launch weekend, with a peak of 485,501 on July 10, 2026. This represents a significant surge from its typical daily player count of 30,000 to 70,000.
Beyond new creatures and zones, the 1.0 update includes a comprehensive story rework, an ambitious undertaking for a full release. New mechanics such as Awakening and Mutation for Pals introduce deeper breeding and power progression systems. The level cap has been increased to 85, and work suitability for Pals has been overhauled, now extending up to level 10, adding considerable depth to base management.
Pocketpair has maintained the game’s price at $29.99, a decision the developer described as a “small way of saying thank you” for the “success beyond our wildest dreams.” This approach contrasts with many titles that raise prices upon exiting early access.
However, a significant legal challenge persists. The Pokémon Company and Nintendo are still pursuing legal action against Pocketpair, alleging patent infringements. A judgment on this matter is anticipated later this year, casting a shadow over Palworld’s continued development, even as Pocketpair pushes forward with updates.
The update also brings new weapons, expanded base-building options, multiplayer enhancements, and extensive balance adjustments. The wildlife sanctuaries have received an overhaul, now featuring drones and searchlights, making them more challenging to navigate. The sheer volume of new content and refinements aims to keep its massive player base engaged and invested in the world of Palworld.
